The Redbud Trail Festival

and Quilt Workshop was in Barbourville, Kentucky April 10, 11, and 12. KCEOC Community Action Partnership is always a willing partner in the events and supports it with our time and energy.

Springtime in the Appalachian Mountains is something to see, especially when the hills are coming to life with the first burst of color—the redbuds. We invite you to come and visit Knox County anytime, but would love to have you enjoy our spring festival! Make plans to attend next year.

Mixon Manor Groundbreaking

What could have become a depressing event on a cold rainy morning, instead became a celebration of one man’s dedication to helping others.  KCEOC Community Action Partnership broke ground today on Mixon Manor, a twenty unit, Section 202 housing development, funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, for elderly and disabled individuals in Knox County.  The development is named after the late Reverend William “Bill” Mixon, former Board Member of KCEOC and a longtime champion of those less fortunate.
Helen Mixon, Reverend Mixon’s widow, spoke of Bill love of people and his vision for the type of complex the 202 project will become.  She said he used to step out on the steps of the First Baptist Church across the street and look out over the field where Mixon Manor will be built, and talk about how beautiful the property was and how it would be perfect for an elderly housing development.  Beginning Monday, Reverend Mixon’s dream will become a reality.
KCEOC continues to strive to help people and change lives, as the 20 unit complex will join the agency’s other 202 project, the 14 unit Sowders Manor.  For over 43 years KCEOC has been creating opportunities for change for the residents of southeastern Kentucky through housing, child development, youth programming, and emergency services.
